23 Stamping Die Terms and Basics
1. Roll up
Rolling is a stamping process in which the edges of the process parts are stacked into a closed circle. The reeling shaft is straight.
2. Rolled edge
Rolling is a stamping process in which the upper edge of the hollow part is stacked into a closed circle.
3. Drawing
Drawing is a stamping process that transforms a straight or process piece into a curved profile and relies on the extension of the material at the bottom of the die base.
4. Bend
Bending is a stamping process in which the bending deformation is completed under the combined influence of tensile force and bending distance, and the entire bending section is subjected to tensile stress.

5. Bulge
Expansion is a stamping process that expands a hollow or tubular part outward along the axis. Cutting is a partial stamping process that divides the forming process into several.
6. Straightening
Straightening is a stamping process that improves the flatness of a partial or overall flat part.
7. Wave forming is a stamping process that creates partial depressions or protrusions in process parts depending on the extension of the material. The change of material thickness in wave forming is unintentional, that is, a small change in thickness is naturally formed in the deformation process, not specified by design regulations.
8. Bend
Bending is a stamping process that uses pressure to plastically deform the material, and then bend it into a certain curvature and a certain angle.
9. Chisel
Chiseling is a blanking or punching process using a sharp chisel to cut a die. The chisel does not have a lower die, only a flat plate is placed under the material, and most of the stamping materials are non-metallic.
10. Deep hole punching
Deep hole punching is a punching process when the diameter is equal to or lower than the thickness of the material being punched.
11. Blanking
Blanking is a stamping process that separates material along a closed contour. The separated materials are mostly flat and become workpieces or process parts.

12. Narrowing

Plastic surgery is a stamping process in which the shape and specifications of process parts are changed in small amounts with the help of material flow to ensure workpiece accuracy.
14. Trimming
Decoration is a stamping process of cutting a small amount of material along the outer or inner contour to improve the smoothness and verticality of the edge. The fit-out process also generally improves dimensional accuracy.

Turning is a stamping process in which the material is rotated along the periphery of the inner hole into a side-standing boss.

The reverse side is a stamping process that rotates the material along the profile curve to make the short side.
17. Deep drawing
Deep drawing is a stamping process that turns straight hair or craft parts into hollow parts, or further changes the shape and size of hollow parts. During deep drawing, the hollow part relies on material outside the bottom end of the die base to flow into the cavity.

Continuous deep drawing is a stamping method that gradually forms the required shape and size on the strip (coil) by drawing several times.
19. Thinning and deep drawing
Thinning and deep drawing is a deep drawing process that can further change the shape and specification of the hollow process part and intentionally thin the outer wall.
20. Reverse deep drawing
Reverse drawing is a deep drawing process in which the inner wall of the hollow process part is warped outward.

21. Differential temperature drawing
Heating is used to deepen the temperature difference. The cooling method makes the temperature of the material to be deformed much higher than the temperature of the deformed material, thereby increasing the degree of deformation.
22. Hydraulic deep drawing
Hydraulic deep drawing is a deep drawing process that replaces a die base or cavity with a liquid in a rigid or flexible container to create a hollow part.
23. Beads
Beading is a type of wave forming. When part of the wave appears in the form of ribs, the corresponding wave forming process is called bead pressing.
